Other Services

In addition to offering minimally-invasive and surgical treatments for a variety of musculoskeletal problems, Suncoast Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine in Sarasota, Florida also offers important diagnostic tools and services to ensure that all patients receive the highest quality of care.

X-Ray

Suncoast Orthopaedic Surgery offers X-ray services in order to diagnose injuries. X-ray imaging uses electromagnetic waves to create pictures of the inside of the body. These images depict parts of the body in varying shades of black and white. Since certain tissues in the body absorb different levels of radiation, X-rays can be used to check for and diagnose broken bones and other musculoskeletal problems. Fortunately, X-rays are standard procedures and very simple for patients to undergo. Most X-rays can be done without any preparation, though some may require the patient to be given a contrast dye to improve the quality of the images.

MRI

A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan is commonly used by the doctors at Suncoast Orthopaedic Surgery to create detailed images of organs and tissues inside of the body. By using a strong magnetic field and radio waves, an MRI provides important diagnostic information. It is a non-invasive and painless procedure as well. The only preparation required for some patients is an injection of a contrast liquid to improve the appearance of certain body tissues. Overall, an MRI is an excellent diagnostic tool for patients with a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions.

Apply and Remove Casts and Braces

Casts and braces are important tools for injury recovery. A cast is usually made of plaster or fiberglass and applied around an injury to immobilize a specific joint. Casts are most commonly used to help a broken bone heal. Braces, meanwhile, come in many different forms in order to either restrict or support the range of motion of a specific joint. A functional knee brace, for example, uses straps and hinges to protect and support the knee as it moves. The doctors at Suncoast Orthopaedic Surgery specialize in applying and removing casts and braces for patients of all ages.
